Thanks, Joanne Kates! Ruby Chinese Resto--What a Killer!
Responsible reporting at its finest as the G&M Kates recommends a "killer" resto in today's paper that the Toronto Star reported closed several days ago. Yikes!

Toronto Star online today has a story about the closure of the restaurant, and the last paragraph refers to the review in the Globe.

-Globe updates readers today who probably drove out there for the singapore style salmonella, after reading glowing review..
CAROLINE ALPHONSO From Monday's Globe and Mail Published on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 12:00AM EDT Last updated on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 2:35AM EDT A popular Chinese restaurant in Scarborough remains closed for the long weekend after a salmonella outbreak that has sickened almost two dozen people and may be responsible for the death of an elderly man. Ruby Chinese Restaurant near Finch Avenue East and McCowan Road was ordered closed on Wednesday by Toronto Public Health after it failed an inspection that found inadequate pest control, cooking surfaces not adequately cleaned and food not properly protected from contamination. The restaurant also failed a follow-up inspection on Friday and remained closed through the weekend. "They had a number of issues that they weren't in compliance with, and so we had to shut them down," spokeswoman Rishma Govani said yesterday. Physicians are required to report all cases of salmonellosis - the illness caused by salmonella bacteria - to Public Health. By interviewing those who fall ill at the same time, public health workers trace common links that may reveal a single source of infection. After receiving multiple reports of salmonellosis in recent weeks, investigators determined that 22 people had tested positive for salmonella after eating at the restaurant between Sept. 12 and Sept. 20. A review of the restaurant, based on a Sept. 10 visit, appeared in The Globe and Mail on Saturday. The review did not appear on globeandmail.com Public Health is investigating a further 15 probable cases and a death that may be linked to the outbreak, Ms. Govani said, adding that the deceased was an elderly man who may have had underlying health conditions. The restaurant has passed every inspection since December, 2007, according to the city's DineSafe website. The restaurant even passed an inspection Sept. 29, Ms. Govani said, but investigators went back to check again because of reports of salmonella. Calls to the restaurant were not picked up yesterday, but it could reopen as early as tomorrow so long as it passes a health inspection. Ms. Govani said the owners were having trouble securing a pest-control company over the long weekend. |

You should change the title of this thread to "Globe has egg foo yung on its faeces". Or maybe "Globe has egg poo yung on its face." Or
"Globe has egg poo yung in its faeces."
