As to your observations regarding the news, I agree though, frankly, they're all tiresome and skewed, viz my inumerable posts about 1.7% of the world's population (Israel and Palestine) taking up 55% of the headlines while scientific discoveries are rarely if ever covered.

Regarding the preponderance of management, again, I couldn't agree more. I'd respect those who seek to slash budgets more if they'd first examine the option of slashing out all the fat without mercy. I agree though that if cuts are made managment will somehow survive. It's sad to see that, while many public insitutions no longer hire permanent staff, their HR departments flourish nonetheless -- it's the same with most universities.
