- My understanding is that Jim Flaherty finally listened to his family who have been saying something like this to him: Jim you`re now 64 years old, suffering from a lingering health condition that affects your sleep and energy and weight and general condition, for twenty years you`ve worked on a government minister`s salary when for much of that time you could have made ten times the money for half the work in industry, you have now effectively achieved your final objective as finance minister which is to balance the budget, when the hell are you going to put you and your family first and go out and make some real money in the few years you have left to do so.
- As to income splitting for couples with kids, my kid is making a lot more than I am and lives and pays taxes in the US so I haven`t studied the issue sufficiently to take a firm position. I can see the attraction politically in terms of the Tory base and facilitating middle income Canadians to actually, gasp, start having children again but I can also see the revenue loss to the government that might make keeping the budget balanced and funding essential programs in economic downturns more challenging as well as the cries that this would somehow discriminate against poorer families.
- Maybe I`ll wait to see what Just-In Truedope wants to do on this inasmuch as he claims to represent the middle class and then go the opposite way.
- Where do YOU stand on the issue, IR.
