ast end.

Surinder Rai, who has been a TTC driver for five years, says being assaulted is nothing new. "I was spat on on the Jane Street [bus]. I simply asked him to pay the proper fare and he spat on me and ran away."

According to the TTC nearly 400 operators are assaulted each year.
"We're averaging about one incident a day," said TTC chair Howard Moscoe. "It ranges all the way from someone yelling at a driver, to someone shooting a driver at the other extreme end of it."

The transit authority is trying to put an end to violence on its vehicles. A pilot project is underway on one bus route that might make it safer to ride the TTC.
