...I've been studying it, trying to get a handle on what it will mean, the concept's a lefty delight, if only because it might be a change from the demon Capitalism, I even sat through a speech by the CBC's Evan Solomon on the "New Economy" - "people are going to have to find wealth in non-material ways and see value in things that previously had no value" - I assume he means things like being able to drink potable water out of the faucet in your home, that's gotta be worth something. I know they hope to keep the welfare checks flowing for a while based on corrupt and incompetent credit trading schemes... in theory, those who engage in wealth-producing activities ("work") will pay those who build up credits by doing nothing, same old, same old... To get to the point, the bottom line, we're all global now...

Pockets of wealth and pockets of poverty will be globally distributed regardless of national borders. Wealth will accumulate wherever knowledge and productivity concentrate on the planet. This is a very good thing for the poorer parts of the planet, not so much for stupid lazy Canadians with a sense of entitlement. So far, my study of this so-called "New Economy" has not given me any clear vision of the future but I will predict, with confidence, a steady increase in poverty in Canada. What's the problem with that? I remember Trudeau speaking of it thirty years ago... our standard of living has to go down and the third world's standard of living has to go up, he said.
