There is an old Klingon proverb about how only Nixon could go to China, so I guess other than Huge (or YFF or Fender or Rob), I can start a topic like this. So that free anti-virus software thread got me thinking about why Macs suck. Besides, what better way to celebrate the passing of my Microsoft Certified Professional exam (paid for by my employer) - and I always thought MCP stood for "male chauvinist pig"; well, judging by the guys I see in I.T., if the foo shits...
Here goes:
1) They work too well. So much so that earning a living supporting them doesn't pay the mortgage. Bill Gates didn't become the world's richest man by saving people money.
2) The majority use Windows. That's reason enough. Use a computer at home that your employer - who cares about your sanity and well-being - forces you to use at work. What better way to truly merge home and work life so that there is no more separation. Having a Mac at home deprives a person of unpaid overtime. (NOTE: This argument doesn't apply to the iPod, that's just Apple being "monopolistic" because the iPod "forces" you to buy all your music from iTunes, as it will blow up your computer if you buy a CD from a store).
3) You're stuck with the same computer longer. Windows PCs are cheap. So they can be replaced more often when things get slow. You get stuck with an operational Mac for much longer. Hey, computers aren't underwear, you shouldn't have to have them for more than four years.
4) Internet Explorer is no longer developed for the Mac. The browser of choice, with its lack of tabbed browsing and ability to block popups prevents you from enjoying all the code written by scam webmasters to direct you to their pornsites.
5) Ancient operating system. UNIX! Who needs over four decades of debugged code reliably allowing you to get things done. Hell, if Macs were in the workplace, we couldn't blame the Blue Screen of Death for not getting our reports done by deadline.
6) Compatibility. They work with everything. See 1) in that you deprive an I.T. person a job by being able to make things happen yourself.
7) The Enterprise / Collaborative environment. Ask any elflord, Macs are more distributive than centrally controlled - bad, very bad. And if making the job of your I.T. Department easier is more important than making the job of everyone else so, you really only have one choice: Windows. Besides, the elflords are smarter than you, so you have to bow down to their incredible brains and accept what they deem as superior.
There must be more! C'mon Windows zealots!
