Broadcasting mogul David Asper and his wife Ruth are suing their former nanny, claiming she pilfered more than $150,000 from their bank accounts.
In a statement of claim filed in Court of Queen's Bench last week, the couple claim their nanny and housekeeper of 10 years, Alma Julian Manabat, forged and cashed dozens of personal and joint bank account cheques.
In the statement of claim, David Asper said he became suspicious in September after noticing "irregular transactions" in his personal bank account statement.
The couple hired a private investigator, who confronted the woman about the thefts, according to an affidavit by Ruth Asper.
According to the affidavit, the nanny admitted to forging and cashing the cheques and said she sent some of the money to the Philippines to pay for her brother's medical expenses.
No money has been returned to the Aspers.
The couple has won a court order freezing the accused woman's assets until the conclusion of court proceedings.
The couple fear the woman may try to transfer more money out of the country, said the statement of claim.
The Aspers declined comment.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
