Halladay Traded To Red Sox For Nick Green, Jed Lowrie & Minor Leaguers |
Lead | |

Just kidding, but I figured I might as well give Cap a nice weekend adrenaline jolt.
I bet he ends up staying with the White Jays, actually. |

given the track record of JP Riccardi he will probably trade Halladay for Tim Wakefield, Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Luis Tiant... |

Why would the Sox give up that much when they're in first place already, and able to hold the Yankees off on a regular basis? The Sox have got a farm
system full of talent, and a roster loaded with future all stars. It doesn't make any sense to trade that away for a pitcher who's closing in on his
twilight years, and who's a free agent next year. The only way I can see the Sox wanting him is to keep him away from the Yankees, but the Yankees have
very little to offer compared to the say, Dodgers, Phillies or Angels.
And how can Riccardi still keep a job? Elsbury, Pedroia, Papelbon, Lowrie, Lester, Green...all draft picks by the Sox, and each one picked after the Jays made their picks.
Hats for bats. Keep bats warm. Gracias.

The Jays can afford to give him up, they've got that whole group of new young starters, Rzepczynski just beat the Sox today, Romero looks like AL Rookie Of
The Year, and Richmond and Cecil have held up pretty well; this year's gone, but Shaun Marcum is supposedly bouncing back well from Tommy John surgery, if
he returns at 100% he'll be the 1. Yes, Ricciardi's made bad player moves, but the farm system bails him out, even makes up for gaffes like the 47
million to BJ Ryan... at least Gaston hasn't beaten up one of his players like Gibbons did to the departed Shea Hillenbrand.
The Yankees have umpteen good outfielders and catchers, and they can afford to lose Hughes and Melky and the minor-league catcher, Romine; pitching-wise, they have a kid named Zach McAlister in AA, 21 years old, 2.25 ERA, looks like the real item, they've showcased Hughes nicely and he's got some market value again, if only as a set-up guy. But as I said, my guess is that Halladay stays. The stupid Yanks will end up with Jarrod Washburn or some such. Clearly, with Buchholz around and looking like the same guy who threw a no-hitter very early on in his career, the Red Sox don't need Halladay. |

twilight years? | ||

cap don't know Halladay....he is hardly closing in on his twilight years.
he is the best starting pitcher in baseball now...end of story. and he is 634 years younger than Wakefield, who is Tom Watson's great grandfather. |

Actually, the best starting pitcher this year has been Danny Haren of Arizona, leading MLB in ERA, WHIP and K/BB, though Halladay's K/BB is also
extraordinary, and he gets points for playing in the AL, while Haren gets to pitch to a bunch of pitchers and .240-hitting shortstops in the NL. Halladay did
beat the Red Sox today, though.

baseball is a thinking man's game....it's also a game where talent ability and the absolute irreducible truth of skill judgement and sportsmanship
CANNOT be hidden by bullshit...ever see the wops play in the whirld cup of football ?...or them other primer doners the brazilians ?....ever see the chinks in
world class ping pong ?...now just you contrast THAT exhibitionistic display of underhanded faggotry with the rhythmic progression of chess like play in
baseball...
now get the fuck outta here you homo...go cry in the alley with your mouth full of dyke semen.....and other 'orrible filthy stuff like that you deranged durango driven dreckers immerse yourselves in as a badge of honour.... you prolly voted for the big O....i reckon... |

Who gives a crap about great pitching? (or great goaltending for that matter). I once sat through a "one-hitter"...most boring game ever. Folks want
to see someone who can hit the ball over the fence (or put pucks in the net). Trade Halladay for Pujols.

Sacrilege.
Strikeout pitchers are certainly exciting; trade him for Justin Verlander. But Halladay is quintessentially Canadian in his own way, quietly and understatedly throwing all those ground balls as he does. A strikeout-per-inning guy like Lincecum or Billingsley would be too *flashy* and hence disturbingly American, eh?

Obviously Billy has never faced a high and tight 98mph heater nor tried not to let their knees buckle at an 80mph curve that causes you to bail, only to watch
it break across the back end of the plate causeing you to look rather silly. Or the worst is playing third against a power hitter and you're moved in
because the bases are loaded in the late innings with one out. That line drive scorcher is scarier that any slapshot I've ever had fired at me.
Halladay will be a top notch pitcher for at least two more years, and then like most pitchers, will see his ERA start to grow, his control start to fade. He'll still be a great pitcher, but one to mortgage your future on? Nah. I find it very difficult to deplete a farm system for a guy that only plays every five days.
Hats for bats. Keep bats warm. Gracias.

"and then like most pitchers, will see his ERA start to grow, his control start to fade"
Except your buddy the knuckleballer. He can do this another ten years. And look at Moyer. The junkmen last forever. Moose was better as a junkballer than he ever was as a power pitcher. |

They should've had Spittoon Day for that guy.
Meanwhile, Halladay almost went to the Mets for four genuine non-entities, and supposedly the METS backed out of the deal. Their part involved giving up a guy with a ;176 batting average and pitcher with an ERA about 6. Sounds like fire-sale time for the White Jays. Surely they can do better than that in the open market. However old Halladay is, he's looked great this year, and he's not a 100-mph guy who's prone to blow out an elbow at any time... his most significant injuries over the last few years have been, I kid you not, groin pulls. I dessay the Yanks should grab him instanter... hakkaf!

finally i can write finis to a squalid chapter in my miserable existence....when i think on all those years and all those locker rooms....acting the part of
bat boy at first then trainer's assistant..a bottle of loans liniment in my back pocket for 'verisimiltudinous effect' as my social worker
described it........shyly slapping some moose skowron type on the ass and saying 'great game kiddo!".....handing out towels and collecting jock straps
for laundering....what great memories......then one day seeing phil nikro sleeping on a bench.....his groin exposed...BEGGING to be strained...
after that i was hooked and i never looked back i was so high on it all.... |
